Access Existing Funds

The best strategy for accessing existing federal, state, and local funding for the purchase of Renaissance Learning products is to ensure the costs are included when administrators prepare budgets for these sources.

Also, learn about funding allocations. Formula funds often change based on population shifts or district priorities. If existing funds are not sufficient, consider seeking other public (formula or discretionary) funding or grants from private sources.

Five steps to access existing funds

  1. Find out when your school/district prepares the budget(s). Be ready to submit a rationale for the product(s) and a quote from your Renaissance Learning representative. Determine who needs this information and how they would like it (narrative, bullet points, charts, formal proposal, etc.)
  2. Request our product correlations to see how our products fulfill the purposes of various federal sources. Be sure to also describe a need/problem/challenge the product(s) will address. Use supporting data—number of students not meeting standards, graduation rates, etc.
  3. Describe how you will use the product(s): Number of students, how often, setting, etc., as well as outcomes you expect (increased test scores, more books read, etc.)
  4. If you are required to submit a "formal" proposal, please contact us for specific verbiage and other supportive documents.
  5. In early to mid-spring, check with your school about any unspent funds that may be available at the end of the school year. If so, and your initial request was not approved, resubmit your request. If you initial request was approved (and you have thanked the decision-maker), you may want to request additional funding to meet other needs.
