Edward S. Shapiro, professor of school psychology and director of the Center for Promoting Research to Practice at Lehigh University, passed away Wednesday, March 23.
Dr. Shapiro was described by College of Education Dean Gary Sasso as “a giant in the field of school psychology and special education” who has “consistently ranked as the most influential professional in the field.”
Dr. Shapiro influenced many people at Renaissance Learning. He provided brilliant and practical advice that influenced the development of the STAR RTI screening and progress monitoring functionality and professional development. Dr. Shapiro also published seminal research showing that computer-adaptive tests are sensitive for RTI progress monitoring.
Renaissance Learning deeply appreciates the significant contributions of Dr. Ed Shapiro to the field of education. We are also grateful to Dr. Shapiro for helping us make better products for students and teachers. Lehigh University also has published a memoriam, which can be found here.
